Useful Services

Insulated Foundations

High performance Foundation System from KORE that fully insulates the foundation of your new home eliminating the critical wall to floor cold bridge. Essentially, the insulated Foundation system wraps the entire foundation of your home in a layer of expanded polystyrene to insulate the home from the ground up.

When the Kore system is designed into a Poroton build the wrapping effect of the house is continued providing you with an airtight, super-insulated home that can be designed to surpass building regulations and achieve the highest building energy ratings.

Visit the Kore website for all the information and technical support you need to consider your foundation options – www.kore-system.com

Suspended Floors

Timber

If using Timber at first floor level a range of options are available – using thin bed approved joist hangers your flooring supports (joists) can be installed using traditional solid timber or the engineered I-Joists. Floor cassettes are also available from companies like KTF. These are prefabricated units with metal web joists (allowing larger floor spans without load bearing points) or solid joists (shorter spans) that can be crane lifted into place speeding up on site construction.

Concrete

The use of hollowcore concrete flooring is also possible. This gives you the opportunity to build solid walls on the first floor and again speeds up on-site construction time.

Roof Trusses

As with any traditional house build the roof of a Poroton Block House can be cut and built on site or constructed from prefabricated roof trusses. The detailing of the interface between the Truss and the Poroton block work remains largely the same.

Companies like KTF can design and fabricate bespoke fink type roof trusses or attic type (room in roof) trusses that can be simply hoisted into position immediately after the block work has been completed.

External Finishes

We can help you source the right external finish for your project. It is necessary to finish the Poroton Block with a coating of render to achieve the U values outlined for each system. This render can be your finished exterior coating, or you can further apply Brick, stone or other decorative cladding such as Fibre cement, Metal or timber. We are happy to advise on these and recommend the following products.

Render

Alsecco Ireland have a Clayblock render application system consisting of a base coat, mesh, and a coloured Silicon topcoat. This can be used both externally as detailed or the Silicon topcoat can be replaced with a plaster finish for internal use. These products can be hand or machine applied. Further details available from www.alsecco.ie/clayblock

Brick

Brick slips can also be applied to the render finish either as a feature column or corner detail or as a full wall section. Brickslips and suitable adhesives are generally available. We work with System Kess who produce bespoke Brick panels that can be mechanically fixed and pointed very quickly. They have a wide range of finishes which can be exactly tailored to your site requirements, reducing waste and speeding up the installation process.

If you are looking for a Natural stone finish then Thin Stone Ireland has the answer for you. From a selection of six types of stone this Westport Company can supply and install 25mm thick cut stone cladding. This lighter but 100% Natural stone product is fixed directly to the wall structure simplifying and speeding up the building process. Thin stone is maintenance free and will last a lifetime.
